»Taipei 101«

In 1978, Joel Meyerowitz photographed the Empire State Building embedded in various Manhattan street scenes – not as a primary subject, but as some kind of point of reference or orientation (his inspiration came from Katsushika Hokusai’s »36 Views of Mount Fuji«). I tried to mimic his approach during my last visit to Taipei by help of the iconic Taipei 101. For lack of time, I decided against waiting for the same light which Meyerowitz used. Still, it is not too easy finding subjects which are strong enough to let 101 take a background role as well as avoiding a game of “Where’s Waldo?”.
